CREEP
Radiohead

I wish I was special
You’re so fuckin’ special
But I’m a creep
I’m a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don’t belong here

Radiohead’s debut single, which obtained a great success despite Radio1 that found it “too depressing”, is in fact the least loved song from the band itself. That was a reaction against people who didn’t appreciate their other songs - Creep has a post-grunge trait not present in the future developments.

The ostinato made by a G-B-C-Cm chord progression during the whole song portrays the obsessive lyrics, written by Thom Yorke in the late 80s during University, while he was following around a girl he was in love with.

In order to have the song played in radio and tv they also had to change some lyrics (you’re so fucking special became eventually you’re so very special): they accepted only after they knew that Sonic Youth, their favourite band, had to do the same.
